Imagining a Healthy Economy - Thursday, January 22
Insight Arts invites you to join a new discussion series revolving around the economic crisis:
IMAGINING A HEALTHY ECONOMY
In 2008, foreclosures were up to 81%. By December, twelve major Foundations that support non-profit organizations closed. Bernard Madoff was indicted for frauding people out of more than fifty billion dollars ($50 billion), one of the largest investor frauds ever committed. Today, Americans are losing more than 30,000 jobs per week. These realities, and many more, are what drive our new discussion series.
Imagining a Healthy Economy will kick off on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.
The first discussion will focus on the rapidly growing economic crisis and possible action steps that can be taken to address some of the problems we are facing. It will feature a look at Peter Gowan's article, "Crisis in the Heartland: Consequences of the New Wall Street System" from the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of New Left Review.

From the New Left Review:
Against mainstream accounts, Peter Gowan argues that the origins of the global financial crisis lie in the dynamics of the New Wall Street System that has emerged since the 1980s. Contours of the Atlantic model, and implications—geopolitical, ideological, economic—of its blow-out.
