About UBUNTU...
Imagine waking up everyday battling your toughest opponent; HIV/AIDs, while being taunted by the other bullies known as racism, economic inequality, etc. This may not be a visible cry for help, but these tears of surrender run down the cheeks of South Africans daily. Relentless in their effort for change, those plagued by HIV/AIDs have been fighting for justice for over six-teen years., it is quite easy to lose hope when change only creeps around the corner only to turn its head when you stare back.
Hope is still possible through the eyes of the Abound project. This project’s desire is to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS crisis in South Africa, preferably with the assistance of a dedicated organization. Ubuntu’s designs are influenced by the J.L. Zwane centre, an organization in South Africa. The J.L. Zwane centre embraces the aspect of optimism by offering the south Africans employment opportunities, HIV/AIDS support groups, food parcels, after-school programs, an HIV/AIDS clinic, an HIV/AIDS Hospice, HIV/AIDS education programs, as well as, daily food plans.
Help is not a given in South Africa, but perhaps a concept that is trying to be snatched from the clothes of their almost-but not in close distant grasp. The word “Ubuntu” means, “I am me, because you are you.” Lets not stand around and be spectators of this act of injustice. Don’t be afraid to over-step your boundaries, help the mission of Ubuntu by incorporating your organization into the values, teachings, and concerns that will aid the South Africans battle and restore hope. - Shatara Johnson
