Imagining a Healthy Economy - Thursday, August 27

INSIGHT ARTS INVITES YOU TO COME SHARE YOUR IDEAS IN AN ONGOING DISCUSSION OF THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS

IMAGINING A HEALTHY ECONOMY
This Month: Building Solidarity Economies

Thursday, August 27
7 to 9 PM

Join us for a community forum on building “solidarity economies.” In the face of our current (failing) economy, the forum will explore ways of forging new types of economic and social exchange.

This event is co-sponsored by Mess Hall (www.messhall.org) and Insight Arts, and is the first in a series that explores methods of building local alternative economic arrangements, such as barter networks, housewives councils, free stores, and community-controlled credit unions.

Our goal is to make the current recession the occasion for thinking about how to create sustainable and long-term solidarities as alternatives to individual or corporate capital accumulation.

The Forum Will Include the Following Speakers and Topics:

Craig Harshaw—

“Introduction: What we mean when we talk about ‘solidarity’”

Rachel Wallis—

“Solidarity Economies: First Principles & Good Examples”

Kristin Cox—

“Pooling Resources: the Case of Credit Unions (or why we should all be members of a credit union)”

Luis Tubens & Ed Onaci—

Building a People’s Green Movement (& class-conscious solidarities in the process)

COCAL (Coalition of Contingent Academic Labor)—

Forging Workplace Solidarity Amongst Temporary Workers

The forum will be followed by Open Discussion

Building Solidarity Economies will take place at The Center for New Possibilities, 1505 W Morse Ave.
